Best Army Comps in Build an Army
Spending plans for early, mid, and offline marches — not a fake named squad list.
A “best army” in Build an Army is a spending order, not a copied roster of named heroes. LiveForFun has not published a full shop table, so this page will not invent one. You start with barracks units. You upgrade them. Rare and legendary troops with unique abilities show up later. The column that walks farther, banks more on undeploy, and still pays while you are offline is the best army — even if every model on the plot is still called infantry.
Read the unit tier list for why damage upgrades outrank extra weak bodies. Use the barracks guide as the shop map. Use the units hub if you need rarity language before you spend.
Early comp — one core, then damage
Join a 4-player server, claim the plot, and walk to the barracks before you tap Deploy. Buy the starter infantry if the plot is empty. Deploy once so you can see the first ambush. You will probably watch that soldier lose to enemy sergeants. That wipe is data, not a verdict on the game.
First cash goes into a damage upgrade, not a second unupgraded body. Early footage is clear: stacking weak copies does not beat the sergeant pack; upgrading the core does. After the upgrade, march again. If distance jumped, you now have an S-tier pattern on a cheap model. If it did not jump, buy the next damage step before you widen the column.
Do not spend the first pouch on Robux. Nuke is optional pay-to-skip at a steep 7,214 Robux, and it is a C-tier pattern if you still have no farm. Sprint is offsale. The free loop is barracks, upgrade, deploy, undeploy.
Early stop rule: stop buying extra bodies until the core infantry can win the first sergeant fight without you staring at it in panic. Soak is B-tier on purpose. It waits.
Mid comp — rares when they outwalk the core, soak behind them
Mid game starts when the barracks offers something that is not just another copy of the starter, or when you have enough cash to choose between a rare and another damage step.
Buy a rare when a test march survives farther than upgraded infantry. That is the A-tier rule. If the rare dies on the same tile, keep the cash for another upgrade or wait. Rare and legendary units explains how to judge a unique ability without a published kit: did the column keep walking, and did undeploy pay more?
Add unupgraded bodies only as soak. Park them so they eat a first hit. Do not let the shop turn into a crowd simulator. A mid lineup that looks busy and still melts at the same sergeant pack is a failed mid lineup.
Keep feeding damage. Mid players often stall because they treat the army as a collection instead of a column. One legendary unique-ability unit, once it actually unlocks and actually moves the march, can replace a handful of soak bodies. Until that happens, the upgraded core is still the spine.
Mid stop rule: you should be able to undeploy for more than the last upgrade cost on a clean run. If you cannot, the comp is too wide and too weak. Sell the idea of a huge parade and go back to the spine.
Offline comp — leave a walker, not a statue
The official pitch is that the army never rests. Offline earnings are leftover march value, not a second game mode with different units. The best offline comp is the same column that last printed distance, left in a state that can fight without you.
Leave the upgraded core deployed. A D-tier single unupgraded infantry will not farm for you while you sleep. An S-tier upgraded core with an A-tier rare in front or beside it will at least keep contesting the lane.
Do not leave a C-tier mess. If the last thing you did was buy extra bodies and skip upgrades, log back in and fix that before you quit. Offline time multiplies the pattern you already own. It does not invent a better one.
Do not plan offline around Nuke. A pass you fire while logged in is not an overnight farm. If you want idle cash, you want a column that already walks. Details on the pass itself live on the gamepasses page; this page only cares that it is not a comp.
Offline stop rule: if you would not trust the column to pass the first sergeant pack without you, do not trust it to pay while you are gone.
What a best army is not
It is not a list of Swordsman, Archer, Witch, or any other names copied from Make a Army or Build ur Army. It is not a DPS spreadsheet. It is not “buy Nuke, skip the barracks.” It is not a 4-player PvP draft — servers hold four plots, and your lane is still your economy.
If a limited pack dumps a vehicle or extra troop types onto the plot, treat it as a one-time body count. Ask the same three questions: farther walk, more cash, better leftover. If the answer is no, it was a souvenir.
The volcano landmark is a later goal, not a different composition. You do not build a special volcano squad. You build a column that does not die at the first ambush, then you let distance accumulate.
When you are ready to shop, open the barracks guide with this order in your head: damage on the core, rare if it outwalks, soak last, legendaries when they exist and prove themselves. Then come back to the unit tier list if a purchase tempted you to skip a step.
Write the next purchase on paper before you open the shop so the volcano stays a landmark, not a wipe screen.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the most common questions.
What is the best early army in Build an Army?
A starter infantry core with its damage upgraded before you buy extra bodies. That pattern clears sergeants; a crowd of unupgraded copies does not.
When do I add rare units to the comp?
When the barracks offers a rare that survives farther than your current infantry. See rare and legendary units for how to test that.
What should I leave running offline?
The same upgraded column that last printed distance. Do not leave a single unupgraded infantry and expect leftover earnings.
Is there a best named squad I should copy?
No. LiveForFun has not published a full named roster. This page is a spending plan. The unit tier list ranks patterns, not copied names.
Should Nuke be part of my army comp?
Only as optional account power after you have a farm. It is not a barracks unit and not required. Read gamepasses.
